Parent Information

We are excited to spend the summer with your children exploring the world of food! The following information is designed to help you understand Future Chefs Food Camp's commitment to the safety and well being of your children while providing the maximum amount of learning and fun!

 

Important Information

Liability Waiver:

You must sign an electronic liability waiver BEFORE your child can participate in Future Chefs Food Camps.

Upon enrollment, students will receive a hat that they are required to wear in the kitchens. On the last day of class the hat will be sent home with the student.

Students are asked to dress in casual play clothes, with care given to appropriate clothing for special classes. Closed toe shoes are required for all Brightwater classes. Open toed shoes or flip flops may not be worn in any lab spaces.

Students should feel welcome to be comfortable at Future Chefs but shall not practice a mode of dress, style of hair or standard of personal grooming which will present a health or safety hazard or cause disruption or disturbance to the educational process.

The following dress code is prescribed for all Future Chefs students and is in line with the Bentonville Public School dress code:

Students will not be permitted to wear:

  • Tube tops, spaghetti strap tops (strap must be minimum of 2 inches wide), cut-off t-shirts, midriff shirts/blouses, or netted shirts.
  • Shirts, hats, buttons, etc. displaying obscene or inappropriate printing or advertising of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco products, either explicit or implied.
  • Offensive clothing and offensive writings and drawings on the body and clothing.
  • Rips, tears, or holes in clothing must be below the student's fingertips when arms are fully extended toward the knees and shoulders are relaxed.
  • Short shorts or dresses/skirts, including splits, must extend below the student's fingertips with shoulders relaxed.
  • Clothing which shows underwear or lack thereof when doing normal activities.
  • Rolling or wheeled shoes.

Since the purpose of Future Chefs is to provide an enrichment program, proper standards of conduct are necessary to protect the health, safety and well-being of all Future Chefs students.

  • Behavior that might interfere with the educational process is unacceptable.

  • Students will be respectful of students, staff and faculty.

  • Students will be careful with college equipment, property and the property of other students.

  • Safety of students is our first responsibility. Students MAY NOT GO ANYWHERE on campus without being accompanied by a Future Chefs staff member.

  • Parents will be contacted if their child is involved in any unacceptable situations during the day. If you have been contacted due to unacceptable behavior, you may be asked to pick up your child.

  • Staff members have the right, at any time, to exclude any child from activities due to failure or inability to follow, as directed, any and all rules and/or policies for participants.

Disciplinary Procedures:

  • 1st occurrence: Instructor issues verbal warning.

  • 2nd occurrence: Instructor contacts program director.

  • 3rd occurrence: Program director asks parent to pick up child for remainder of day.

  • 4th occurrence: Student is expelled from all Future Chefs programs for remainder of summer. No refunds will be issued.

Students risk immediate expulsion from the program if:

  • The student is caught stealing another person's property.

  • The student issues or performs threats of bodily injury.

  • The student engages another student/instructor in physical contact of any kind.

  • The student has repeated behavioral issues, per disciplinary procedures above.

A parent or guardian will be required to sign students in and out at the beginning and end of each day. Children will be dropped-off and picked-up inside the front doors of Brightwater: A Center for the Study of Food, 801 SE 8th Street #71, Bentonville, Arkansas.

All sessions begin and end promptly at the designated time, so please have your child dropped off and picked up on time. You may drop your child off at Brightwater between 8:20 am and 9:00 am. You may pick your child up inside the front doors of the building between 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm. Please DO NOT drop off your child earlier than 8:20 am or pick-up later than 4:30 pm to ensure Future Chefs staff members are present to supervise your child.  

Children who are picked up later than 4:30 pm will not be allowed to continue to attend and no partial refunds will be granted.

If your child will be late or absent, please call 479-631-8600 and leave a message.

Lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided during Future Chefs culinary and baking camps. Please designate any food allergies your child has on the registration form.  If you have any further concerns, please email FutureChefs@nwacc.edu.

A limited number of scholarships will be available for those in need. We strive to be equitable in providing culinary and baking education for those in all income brackets. If you believe that your child qualifies, please e-mail futurechefs@nwacc.edu for a scholarship application.

As a Future Chefs participant, you are asked to be aware of any COVID-19-like symptoms that you may be experiencing such as a fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, congestion, etc. If you are experiencing these types of symptoms, have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 (Ex: a person in your house has symptoms of covid or has tested positive for covid) and/or if you have tested positive for COVID-19, you must stay home and notify your Future Chefs instructor.
